Underworld grew out of Dave Keeley’s love of tropical fish, first as a keen hobbyist, followed by the opening of a retail shop in Loughborough in 1971. The shop expanded, relocated, and supported the then new hobby of marine fish-keeping, growing to become one of the leading specialist aquatic shops in the Midlands.
In 1976 Dave founded Underworld Products, a specialist importing agent of aquarium products to the trade. Underworld Products started as a one-man business from a small unit, and has now grown to its current position as one of the leading specialist independent suppliers to the trade, still true to its founding base of aquarium products, but also now embracing reptile and small animal products.
Underworld Products has been, and continues to be, partners with many fine specialist aquatic manufacturers, including Aquarium Systems, Two Little Fishies, EcoSystems, Poly-Bio-Marine and Estes.

Underworld Products was the first pet company in the UK to become carbon neutral. We are also members and supporters of many specialist animal groups and conservation societies. Dave Keeley was a founding director of OATA, which he has continued to serve since its inception.
In late 2008, Underworld launched its Komodo reptile brand, overseen by long-time associate Steve Zlotowitz, a well-respected and acknowledged herpetologist. Komodo has tried to be a truly different brand, with responsible, innovative and well-tested products, environmentally-friendly, and clear, helpful instructions. The launch of Komodo has been an unqualified success, and many new products are currently being developed and trialled prior to being added to the range.
