This should be used to raise the alkalinity and pH and stabilize the water quality in marine and reef aquariums. The pH of the open ocean is stable between 8.0 and 8.3 due to the carbonatebicarbonate buffering system. Within an aquarium, biological activity can typically cause a decline in alkalinity and so lowers the pH value.
